Lucent is where I was given the responsibility for an entire project: Documenting the MX1000 asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) switch. I had a team of six writers. My job included documentation design, including partitioning of information, writing, scheduling, and project planning. I wrote the hardware description that ended up being used as the internal product specification.
This was also the first time I was involved in Human Factors research, working with members of the Human Factors department and shadowing technicians to learn how they prefer to use information products. This informed the pilot projects I was involved in to deliver information products using new media. The result of which was a restructuring of massive amounts of printed documentation into user-friendly web-based knowledge portals.
